My 2025 rate is $175.00/ 50-minute session. The initial (intake) session is $200.
Fees for less traditional blocks of time can be estimated relative to this rate and will be agreed upon prior to beginning therapy. (This option applies to individuals and couples paying out of pocket only.)
Insurance Accepted: I am IN network with CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield (BC/BS).
If you are seeking couples+ therapy, please check with your insurance carrier to determine whether your plan provides coverage.
If you have health insurance through a carrier other than BC/BS:
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE INSURANCE THAT YOU'RE PAYING FOR! Please check your OUT-OF-NETWORK (OON) BENEFITS.
You may have the option to see any provider of your preference and be reimbursed by your insurance company. As patients using health insurance, we tend to think our only option is to stay 'In Network.' Sometimes our insurance plan doesn't provide options and staying In Network is the only way to use your coverage. But sometimes there are options, (although they don't tend to advertise this to us).
The way OON benefits work is that you pay the provider up front for services rendered, and then you submit a claim to your health insurance provider for partial reimbursement. The reimbursement rate is sometimes up to 90%, resulting in your actual out-of-pocket payment being equal to or even lower than your typical in-network co-pay! I will provide the paperwork required for submission to your insurance company (known as a superbill).
Here's how to figure out whether you have out-of-network benefits and what your cost will be:
Call the phone number on the back of your insurance card and ask:
1. What is my out-of-network benefit for psychotherapy? (The answer will either be 'you don't have any,' or it will be a percentage.) If you do have OON coverage, also ask:
2. What is the regional rate for psychotherapy? (This is, theoretically, the average dollar amount providers in your area charge for professional services and the amount your insurance provider uses to determine their reimbursement rate.)
If you're asked for a procedure code (CPT code), it's 90837 (Individual psychotherapy).
3. How do I submit my super bills? (This is the documentation they require and I provide to you. It's essentially a receipt.)
Example: If your OON benefit is 80% and the regional rate is $165, you pay to me my rate of $175, then submit the claim to the insurance company for reimbursement, which would be $132. You've paid $43 out-of-pocket.
